Franklin J. Pohorence, 89 , residing in Kelleys Island, passed away late Monday night, Oct. 1, 2012.
Frank was born on Oct. 31, 1922, on Kelleys Island to the late Joseph and Anna (Chevany) Pohorence.
Frank was a 1941 graduate of Kelleys Island High School, and then joined the Army in 1942, where he was stationed in Europe and was the recipient of five Bronze Battle Stars. After being discharged from the Army, he returned to Kelleys Island where he owned and operated the Island Market for 38 years.
Frank was a member of St. Michael’s Church, and the Kelleys Island VFW Post 9908. He was very organized and loved spending time working in his garage, walking the island, riding around the island in a golf cart with his loving wife, spending time with his family and friends, and being married for 62 years. Frank touched many lives and will greatly be missed.
Frank is survived by his wife of 62 years, Laura Jean (Seeholzer) Pohorence; one son, Brad (Patti) Pohorence of Sandusky; one daughter, LuAnn (Bob) Swindell of Valley City, Ohio; three grandchildren, Scott (Samantha) Pohorence , Autumn (Eric) Schneider, Joe Pohorence; six great-grandchildren, Macy, Isaac, Rylee, Sarah, Emma, Cameron; one niece, and one nephew, both of California.
Including his parents, Frank was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine, and Florence.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 219 Chappel St., Kelleys Island. Rev. Nick Cunningham will be officiating. Burial will follow in Kelleys Island Cemetery.
