Edwin A. Cummings, 93, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and formerly Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly late Saturday evening, Oct. 6, 2012, in Peace River Regional Medical Center, Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was born May 31, 1919, in Ellijay, Ga., son of the late Edwin Watson and Bertha Zanna (Lawson) Cummings. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during W.W. II as a carpenters mate 3rd class. Edwin was a self-employed master carpenter for more than 70 years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. Edwin had a true love for the arts which he showed through his paintings.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, AMVETS Post 17, VFW Post 2529, American Legion Post 83 and the DAV
Edwin is survived by his son, Edwin D. (Jean) Cummings, of Punta Gorda; four daughters, Carolyn (Tom) Ramos, of Sandusky, Janet (Ron) Kessler, of Huron, Melody (William) Wunschel, of Sandusky and Michele (Steve) Mock, of Port Charlotte; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma L. (Jensen) Cummings on July 26, 2002; his parents; three sisters; and a brother.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Eric Mueller will officiate. Following burial in Sand Hill Cemetery, military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 83 Honor Guard.
