Willard J. Rathbun, 71, of Tampa Fla., and formerly of Castalia, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, March 1, 2009, at his home.
He was born Dec. 10, 1937, in Haskins, Ohio, and attended Bowling Green State University. Willard served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, for two years. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Castalia; Elks Club; and the Yacht Club. He owned and operated Venture Packaging in Monroeville for many years.
He is survived by his daughter, Jodi (Chris) Conley of Castalia; two sons, D. Craig (Jenny) Rathbun of Huron and Timothy (Brittmalin) Rathbun of Oak Harbor; four grandsons, Bryan, JJ, Anderson and Austin; five granddaughters, Caitlin, Taylor, Courtney, Madison and Chelsea; two sisters, Barbara Gunn and Edythe Pettys of Perrysburg, Ohio; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Amy Walderzak.
Willard was preceded in death by his wife, Diane S. (Swanson) Rathbun; parents, Henry and Helen (Hagemeister) Rathbun; and two brothers, Charles and Robert Rathbun.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, where services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Raymond Vance of Zion Lutheran Church, Huron, will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
