Jay B. Matter, 56, of Sandusky, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 19, 1955, in Sandusky. Jay was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.
He loved to fish and garden and was an all around handyman.
He is survived by his children, Jessie Durso, Christine Matter, Leon Matter and Charlotte Matter; three grandchildren; sisters, Irene Matter, Dale Pierce and Tina Hall; brother, Guy Matter; former wife, Barb Matter; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon R. and Lillian (Vandermark) Matter; and a brother, Hy Matter in infancy.
Friends may call 3-5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. American Legion Post 83 Honor Guard will provide a military tribute at 5 p.m.
