James Vincent Pomerson, 80, of Sandusky, passed away early Wednesday morning, Sept. 26, 2012, in Stein Hospice Care Center following a lengthy illness.
James was born June 19, 1932, in Sandusky, son of the late Thomas and Lucille (Shoefflin) Pomerson.
James was a 1952 graduate of Sandusky High School. James retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving his country for 26 years. He was very proud of his military background. He was in charge of the 178th Red Horse cafeteria at Camp Perry in Port Clinton. James was also employed by General Motors where he assumed the role of a UAW benefits representative and retired after 23 years.
James was a member of Sandusky VFW Post 2529; a past board member of Vacationland Federal Credit Union; financial secretary for the UAW Local 913; a lifetime member of the IAB Club; a member of American Legion Post 83, AMVETS Post 17, and the Sandusky Yacht Club.
Even though James was a very busy man, in his spare time he loved to travel with his loving wife of 59 years.
James is survived by his wife, Janet M. (Ohlemacher) Pomerson, whom he married Dec. 26, 1952; two sons, Keith Allan (Shelley A.) Pomerson, of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Michael Dean (Donna A.) Pomerson, of Canton, Mich.; four grandchildren, Anglyn, Brandon, James and Anthony Pomerson; one great-grandson, Austin James Pomerson; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Cassidy.
Friends will be received 4-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Groff Funeral Home and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at noon Saturday, Sept. 29.
