Lela (Hammons) Smallwood, 86, of Huron, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after an extended illness.
She was born June 5, 1922. in Clay County, Ky., and has been a resident of Huron for the past 53 years.
She attended Trinity Temple in Berlin Heights, and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and going to garage sales.
Survivors include her two sons, Darrel Smallwood of Avon Lake, Ohio, and Donald (Donna) Smallwood of Berlin Heights; four grandchildren, Ryan, Jessica, Shane and Justin Smallwood; two sisters, Jean King of Huron and Loretta Ann Flemming of Sandusky; and four brothers, John Hammons and Kenneth Hammons, both of Blanchester, Ohio, Vernon Hammons of Berlin Heights and Victor Hammons of Sandusky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Everett Smallwood; parents, Greene and Allie (Gilbert) Hammons; son, Larry Thomas Smallwood; and sister, Ruby Howard.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m., Saturday, until service at 11 a.m. in Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main St., Huron, with the Rev. Jack Kiskaden officiating. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
