Karen Joan (Lawrence) Hamlin, 65, of Sandusky, went to be with the Lord late Thursday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2012, surrounded by her loving family in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.
She was born Feb. 13, 1947, in Bellevue, daughter of the late Harvey and Mary (Tom) Lawrence. Karen retired from New Departure-Hyatt (Division of General Motors) where she worked for nearly 30 years.
She enjoyed cookouts with her family and friends, planting flowers, baking pies and spending wonderful times, with lots of love, with her grandchildren, family, dear friends and her dogs.
Karen was a member of UAW Local 913; AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Post 17; Sandusky Orioles; Huron Eagles; American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 83; and VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2529.
She is survived by a daughter, Kara Wobser, two stepdaughters, Chris McBee and Terri Malone, and a stepson, James L. Hamlin Jr., all of Sandusky; two grandchildren, Jade and Koty Wobser; sister, Crystal “Chris” (Buddy) Muratori, of Perkins Township.; two brothers, Bruce “Rocky” Lawrence, of Sandusky, and Marc (Blanca) Lawrence, of Port Clinton; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Hamlin Sr. on March 31, 2012; her parents; a sister, Kathy Orwig; stepson, Vincent Hamlin; and stepdaughter, Debra Hamlin.
At her request, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, until a memorial service at 6 p.m. at David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. David T. Clarke, of Stein Hospice, will officiate.
