Mervin Charles Poths, son of Wilbert Frederick Poths and Esther Elizabeth (Balduff) Poths was born July 4, 1925, in Sandusky, and passed from this life Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at Kavanagh on 56th in Des Moines, Iowa, at 87 years of age.
Mervin graduated from Sandusky High School and later served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps.
He was united in marriage to Marilea Joan Jamison April 7, 1946, at Granger, Iowa; two children blessed this union.
Mervin was a lifetime farmer and operated Poths Grain near Woodburn for more than 32 years. He loved to farm, operate the combine and tractor and drive his truck.
]He was a member of Woodburn United Methodist Church, Herndon-Oehlert Post 157 American Legion, serving in many capacities, and the Lucas County Cattleman’s Association. Mervin recently traveled to Washington, D.C., with the WW II Honor Flight.
Those relatives who preceded Mervin in death were his wife, Marilea; his parents, Wilbert and Esther; sisters, Ruth Marie Hemmer, Barbara Jean Lilje, Erma Mae Poths; brother, John Frederick Poths; father-in-law, Chester Jamison; and mother-in-law, Fern Jamison.
Mervin leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Sheryl Poths, of Waukee, Iowa, and friend, Christian, of London, England; son, Ron Poths of Woodburn, and friend, Carol, of Winterset, Iowa; brother, Milton Poths and his wife Norma, of Sandusky; sister, Shirley Poths, of Sandusky; cousins, Bruce Balduff and his wife Deanna, of Columbus, and MonteSue LaValley, of Johnston, Iowa; lifetime friend, Robert “Bob” Hermes, of Sandusky; as well as other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at Kale Funeral Home, Osceola, Iowa, where services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17. Pastor Tom Murr will officiate. Interment will be at Woodburn Cemetery in Woodburn.
