Leon W. Smith, 67, of Norwalk, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, from injuries sustained in a farming accident.
He was born Aug. 28,1945, in Norwalk, son of the late Rudolph F. and Donelda M. (Kehres) Smith and was a lifelong area resident. Leon attended St. Paul Catholic Church and was a 1963 graduate of St. Paul High School. He retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad in 2005 and was a lifelong area farmer.
He was a member of Norwalk VFW Post 2743 , Norwalk American Legion Post 41 and Eagles Aerie 711. He enjoyed wood working, golf, fishing and traveling.
Leon is survived by his wife of 11 years, Janis I. (McDonald) Smith, of Norwalk; by his children and their spouses, Annette M. and Don Schaffer, of Monroeville, Steven J. and Dianna Smith, of Berlin Heights, Tamara and Loren Grant, of Milan, Kevin J. and Missy Smith, of Milan, Debbie and John Anderson, of Norwalk, and Sean M. and Jennifer Smith, of Columbus; his stepdaughters and their spouses, Vickie L. and Ken Ruppert, of Norwalk, and Linda M. Glock and Jason Drummond of Gibsonburg, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Rudy and Judy Smith, of Monroeville, John and Barbara Smith, of Chesapeake, Va., and Eugene and Rose Smith, of Norwalk; and by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Norrita and Ron Jaworski and Patricia and Charles Gies, all of Norwalk.
He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Russell Stower in 1994.
Friends may call 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St. Norwalk. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St. Norwalk. Msg. Kenneth Morman will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroeville.
