Willie Gene Clark Sr. 79, Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center,Sandusky.
He was born Nov. 7, 1929, in DeKalb, Miss., to Virgin Mary (Campbell) and Leo Clark.
He was agraduate of Hope-wells High School and attended Mississippi State College before he was called to serve in the U.S. Army infantry in Korea.
Willie worked for Brown Industries, Ferrell-Cheek Steel Co. and Waldock Packing Co.
He was a member of Porter's Memorial C.M.E. Church, where he was president of the choir, member of the all-male choir, and trustee on the deacon board. He was a member of both American Legion Post 83 and VFW Post 2529. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. He loved familygatherings and his home was known as "headquarters" for his family and friends because of his love and hospitality. He was known in the community for sharing his harvest when farming, especially his greens and peas.
Willie is survived by his wife, Mattie (Davis) Clark; children, Willie Mae (Nelson) Keys, Claudine Page, Ronald (Cheryl) Pickens, John (Pam) Pickens, Linda (Mike) Manzione, Wayne (Mary) Pickens, Dorothy Clark, Billy Ray Parker, Sandra (John) Fennell, Barbara (Calvin) Richardson, Claudette Clark-Stine, Willie (Michelle) Clark Jr., Vivian Clark and Deborah (Eric) Kaiser; sister, Mary Ann Mitchell; brothers, James Clark and Jimmy (Martha) Peden; and grand-children, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughters, Wendy Clark-Peden and Pauline Pickens-Williams; parents; sisters, Annie Mae Lewis and Dorothy Peden; and brother, Johnny C. Peden.
Visitation will take place 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Porter'sMemorial C.M.E. Church,1722 Third St., Sandusky; theRev. Kerrin Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
