DORIS RUTH STROTHER

NOV. 8, 1928-DEC. 7, 2008

CLYDE

Doris Ruth Strother, 80, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008. Formerly of Clyde, Doris recently moved to Jackson, Ohio.

She had a true servant’s heart and was able to share her love of Jesus with others through her caring and compassionate spirit. Doris was always willing to put others first. Her life was a quiet testimony of her strong faith. Her hope was that all would come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

Doris was born Nov. 8, 1928, in Ironton, Ohio, to Lillie B. and Orland G. King. She married her true love, Ralph J. Strother, on Sept. 23, 1950, and together they shared 57 years together until his death, March 5, 2008. Doris was a stay at home mom who lovingly raised four daughters. She was a source of constant support and encouragement to her family. She was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Clyde, and recently attended Liberty Baptist Church in Oak Hill, Ohio. She was active in the women’s group and in support of missionary ministries. Doris was an avid seamstress, enjoyed crafts of all sorts, and gardening. However, she most enjoyed spending time with her family.

Doris is survived by her four daughters, Ginnie L. (Gary) Smith of Alamogordo, N.M., Diane L. Salvador of Port Clinton, Janice K. (Jim) Swain of Crystal River, Fla., and Shirley A. (Roger) Hall of Jackson; 10 grandchildren, Shannon (Brad) Gleason, Scott (Heather) Hall, Angela (Jason) Caponi, Brandi Bell, Julie (Stephen) Chernenko, Jimmy Swain, Adrian and Nicole Salvador, Garrett and Gabrielle Smith; eight great-grandchildren, Nicholas Gleason, Ashley and Matthew Hall, Preston and Ethan Hall, Grace Bell, and Jacob and Jayla Caponi; two sisters, Dorothy Bishoff of Lakeside, Ohio, and Virginia Frische of Castalia; and two brothers, Curtis King of Houston and Richard King of Cincinnati.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers, Eugene, James and Glen King.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday at Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. A celebration of her journey home will be at 10 am. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, 441 Duane St., Clyde. Pastor James Belcher will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 441 Duane St., Clyde, OH 43410, or Holzer Hospice, 100 Jackson Pike, Gallipolis, OH 45631.
