William Bernerd Warnecke, 66, of Clyde, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, with his family at his side.
Bill was born in Ottawa, Ohio, June 21, 1942, son of the late Rudolph and Dorothy (Hohenbrink) Warnecke. He married Linda Sue McMonigal, Nov. 30, 1963. They moved to the Clyde area to start their family and he began working for the N&W Railroad and then for GTE as a telephone repairman. In 1972, he and his wife started their company, Town and Country Homes, and Bill became a successful general contractor and land developer.
Bill was a retired volunteer fireman for the City of Clyde for 32 years. He was a member of Clyde Eagles, Clyde Moose and Clyde VFW. Over the years, he was a member of the Sandusky County Board of Mental Retardation as well as a member of the board of directors of Clyde Savings Bank. He was a member of the Kiwanis and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Clyde.
He had been in failing health since the loss of his wife, Sue, July 15, 2008, after her long battle with breast cancer.
Survivors include his four children, Toni M. (John) Dagg of Fremont, Kimberly A. (Allen) Carn of Clyde, William Dennis Warnecke (Elaine Cahill) of Clyde and Paulette R. Warnecke (Jeff Johnson) of Bettsville. His co-pilot, Albert Douglas, will miss all the trips riding in the truck.
PaPa Bill will be terribly missed by his seven grandchildren, Whitney S. Tea, Tayler E. Tea, Emily A. Dagg, Samuel P. Dagg, Jacob T. Dagg, Molly Kate Warnecke and William Maxwell Warnecke. They all enjoyed spending time with their grandparents at the lake house and out on the boat. They will especially miss his quick wit and colorful comments.
His siblings include Ron (Veronica) Warnecke and Leon (Diane) Warnecke, both of Ottawa, Tom (Vera) Warnecke of Chandler, Ariz., Lynda (Mike) Conley of Lima and Denise (Renee) Warnecke of Huntsville, all of whom survive.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday in Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde. Prayers will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, and funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Clyde, with the Rev. Dennis Schroeder officiating. Burial will be private for the family.
The family asks that memorials be made to the Jillie Snyder Fund, c/o Croghan Colonial Bank, Clyde.
