Vera M. Gallam, 92, of Sandusky, died Thursday morning, Dec. 4, 2008, in Riverside Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, following a brief illness.
Vera was born March 14, 1916 in Sandusky, daughter of the late Cora E. (Ebert) and Emil J. Kanzler. She was a 1934 graduate of St. Mary's High School. Vera retired in 1982 after working as head secretary at St. Mary's Central Catholic High School. She was a life long member of St. Mary's Parish. Following her retirement, Vera volunteered for several years at Firelands Hospital. She was a breast cancer survivor and participated in the Relay for Life.
Vera will be sadly missed by her daughter, Mary Lou Gallam of Powell, Ohio; son, Don Gallam and daughter-in-law, Nadine of Loveland, Ohio; granddaughters, Beth Gallam of Columbus, Laura Gallam of Kansas, Jen Thorn and husband Mike; and great granddaughter. Bella Thorn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norbert H. Gallam; granddaughter, April; parents; sister, Evelyn Johnston; and a brother in infancy.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. in the commons area of St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Vera will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
