Pierre L. "Pee Wee" Amburn, 65, of Cleveland, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 27, 2008.

He was born July 2, 1943, in Sandusky. He was a 1961 graduate of Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic High School and also graduated from Bowling Green State University with a bachelor's degree in education.

Pierre was an outstanding all-around athlete, excelling infootball, baseball, softball and bodybuilding. He emulated his athletic prowess as a high school athlete by scoring four touchdowns in the last several minutes of the final quarter against Goshen High School. He received an athletic scholarship to attend Youngstown State University.

He was a top 10 finalist in Mr. Teenage America competitionof bodybuilding in Chicago. He won many awards and honors for his baseball and softball play and was offered a minor leaguecontract with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was an avid sports car enthusiast taking great pride in his Ferraris and Maserati.

Pierre's successful career spanned the areas of teaching, coaching, sales and as a college admissions representative prior to his retirement.

He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Nancy (Myers) Amburn; his loving 99-year-old mother, Monica; brothers and sister-in-law, O. RenAmburn, M.D., Sandusky, and Walter and Connie Amburn of Sandusky; niece, Rene Michelle Amburn; friend, Larry Kaye of Maryland; nephew, Brent Amburn of Ocoee, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Shane, Connor, Falyn and Willow; and many loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Orville Amburn; brother, Francis "Lance" Amburn; paternal grandparents, Walter "Walt" and Amelia (Wagner) Amburn; maternal grandparents, Ren and Monica Fivet; great aunt, Yvonne M. Fivet; cousins, Lillian and Yvonne M. Fivet; and his uncles and aunts, Herschel and Donna Amburn and Emerson and Cleona (Amburn) Merriam.

Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday in Groff Funeral Home,1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where prayer services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church,429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Philip Feltman, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow inCalvary Cemetery.
