August "Augie" N. Lombardo, 84, of Norwalk and residing in Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, died Monday evening, Dec. 1, 2008, in Sandusky.
He was born April 25, 1924, in Sandusky to Gaspare and Frances (Demma) Lombardo. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943-1946. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
He worked many years as an upholsterer at the formerNorwalk Upholstery. He was a custodian with Huron CountyBank and National City Bank, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of VFWPost 2743, American LegionPost 41, Eagles Aerie 711 and Moose Lodge 1248, all of Norwalk. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of59 years, Joyce (Dendinger)Lombardo of Norwalk,daughters, Linda (Jim) Bersche of Vermilion and Ann (Kevin) Schaffer of Norwalk; son, Dave Lombardo of Huron; six grand-children, Zak Adelman, Derek (Megan Hendershot) Adelman, Brian (Katie) Speer, DrewLombardo, Celeste Lombardo and Andrew Schaffer; brother, Frank Lombardo of Norwalk;and godson, John Cullen.
Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Friday in Evans Funeral Home,314 E. Main St., Norwalk, with a 6:30 p.m. wake service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary Catholic Church, 38 W. League St., Norwalk. The Rev. Francis J. Speier, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow with military honors at St. Paul Cemetery.
