Donald C. Perry, 79, of Sandusky, died Saturday afternoon, Nov. 22, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.
He was born July 2, 1929, in Sandusky, and was a 1948 graduate of Margaretta High School. He was a star athlete in basketball, football, and track, and in 2008 was voted into the Margaretta Hall of Fame. He was a retired employee of Sandusky Foundry and Machine where he was foundry superintendent.
Don was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was past president of the church council and played church dartball. He was involved in Lutheran Men in Mission, Thrivent, Meals on Wheels, was past president of St. Mary’s Booster Club, past president of Sandusky High Booster Club, coached Little League Baseball and 6th grade football, was secretary-treasurer of Mills Creek Senior Golf League, was a member of the Senior Men’s Club of the YMCA, and enjoyed bowling and golfing.
He is survived by one daughter, Kay (Edward) Brown of Monroeville; four sons, Timothy Perry of Sandusky, Craig (Chris) Perry of Richmond, Va., and Milton (Debbie) Perry and Mark (Joanne) Perry, both of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren, Erica, Heidi, Kevin, Sara, Greg, Sharon, Victoria, Braden and Kimberly; one great-grandson, Darrien; two sisters-in-law, Jean Fitz of Castalia and Madalena Perry of Parma, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Perry in 2005; his parents, Raymond and Dorothy (Zeller) Perry; one sister, Joyce Torow; and two brothers, Stan and Milton Perry.
Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. Wednesday until funeral services at 10 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2211 Mills St., Sandusky. The Rev. Gary R. Ulrich will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park. Ransom Funeral Home, Castalia, is handling arrangements.
