John J. Maus, 93, of Sandusky, died Friday evening, Nov. 21, 2008, in Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 12, 1915, in Sandusky. He was a 1935 graduate of Sandusky High School. John was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was employed in the banking business for 42 years, retiring in 1981 fromCitizens Banking Company as a vice president. John also worked in the family business, the former Maus Shoe Store.
He was a 60-year member of Perseverance Lodge No. 329,F.&A.M., member of SingaraGrotto, Firelands Shrine Club, American Legion Post 83, VFWPost 2529, and Sandusky Yacht Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan (Jack) Hedberg; two grandchildren, Dan Hedberg and Kim (Ken) Piotrowski; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Hedberg, and Mike and Nicole Piotrowski; sister, Esther (Roland) Unckrich; sister-in-law, Betty Roderick, all of Sandusky; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Marian E. Maus in 2006; parents, John and Emma (Walker) Maus; and brother, Glen Maus.
Private services for the family will be observed at Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave.; Chaplain Paul Birmingham, of Ohio Veterans Home, willofficiate. Entombment will be in Oakland Cemetery Mausoleum.
