Rosemary Olivia Kromer Long, 90, Sandusky, passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at Providence Care Center, her home for the past four years.
She was born Nov. 8, 1918, in Castalia, and was salutatorian of the 1937 Margaretta graduating class. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother who devoted her life to nurturing, first, her brothers and sisters, and then her own children and grandchildren. She positively influenced everyone she met in her early career as a hairdresser and also as a licensed practical nurse in the 1970’s.
Rosemary married Kleo Long, Oct. 22, 1942. They enjoyed 43 happy years together until his death in 1985. They raised five children in their Castalia home and enjoyed gardening, square dancing and extensive traveling. They also wintered in Bonita Springs, Fla., for many years. She was a lifelong active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She volunteered many years for several groups including Red Cross Blood drives, Margaretta Schools vision testing, Castalia Lions Club and Erie County election polls.
She is survived by her four daughters, Jeanette (David) Mosser, Meadville, Pa., Lois (Jack) Latzy, West Chester, Ohio, Rosanne (Tom) Bodner, Castalia, and Elaine (Dan) Blalock, Toledo; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brother Jerome Kromer; and four sisters, Frances Falter, Lucille Silliman, Alyce Jensen and Agnes Fitz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kleo; son, Anthony in 2002; parents, Anthony and Olivia (Nesselhauf) Kromer; brothers, Cyril, Leo, Richard and Anthony; and sister, Ruth Kramer.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday in Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, where the rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Additional visitation will take place from 9 a.m., Monday, in the Commons in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, until funeral Mass of Christian burial is celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. The Rev. Philip Feltman will officiate.
