Bernell F. Jacobs, 92, residing in Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, and formerly of Walnut Street in Bellevue, passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, in Ohio Veteran's Home.
He was born Aug. 24, 1916, in Riley Township, Fremont, the son of Carlton and Verna (Garner) Jacobs. He married the former Mardella (Bates) June 16, 1952, in Kendalville, Ind., and she preceded him in death Nov. 24, 2000.
Bernell was a truck driver for the former Elmer Borchardt Trucking Co. in Castalia for 44 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran with the 3rd Army, 9th Armor Division serving in the South Pacific Theater. He was a long time4-County Conservation member; former member of VFW Post 1238, Bellevue; and life member of Bellevue Eagles 490. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, shooting trap and studying presidents.
Survivors include two sons, Mike (Theresa) Jacobs and Larry (Kay Ann) DeWitt, both of Bellevue; daughters, Jenny (Stuart) Buza of Lambertville, Mich., and Deanna (Tom) Stimson of Bellevue; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Doris Haubert of Fremont.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brothers, Norman, Don and Milan; and grandson, Greg Jacobs.
Friends will be received 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue, where a prayer service will be at 5:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Bellevue, with the Rev. Karen Kaye, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont.
