FORT WAYNE, Ind.
Emmitt Graves Jr., 71, ofFort Wayne, Ind., and formerly Sandusky, departed this life Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 7, 1937, inTaylorsville, Miss., to Emmitt and Louise (Walton) Graves Sr. Emmitt graduated from Jones County Training School in Sumberland, Miss., and moved to New York where he stayed for a number of years. He moved toSandusky in 1970, where he met andmarried Martha (Jones) Graves, and became the proud father of five children and later adopted two more.
He was employed by Ford Motor Co. in Lorain for 24 years, retiring in 1997.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 24 years, Martha Graves, Fort Wayne;children, Brian (Londa) Watson, Leona Yarbro, Richard Watson, Sonya Cable, Tremaine Watson,Bernadine Waters and Najee Waters, all of Fort Wayne; sisters, Mattie Lee McKines and Edna Mae (L.V.) McKines, both of Taylorsville, and Louise (Joseph) Shine of Sandusky; brother, Daniel (Cindi) Graves of Sandusky; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; aunt, Arcola Graves, Sandusky; uncle, Nathanel Walton, Los Angeles; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nancy Lee Brown; and three nephews.
Friends may call from 10 a.m., Saturday until funeral services at noon in Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, 2515 Columbus Ave., Sandusky; the Rev. Herman Robinson will officiate. Entombment will be in Oakland Cemetery. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is handling arrangements.
