Raymond "Ray" C. Moosbrugger, 82, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and dear friend to so many, passed away Nov. 6, 2008, after a brief illness, in Firelands Region Medical Center, Sandusky.
Ray was a man of strong convictions. His vivaciousness and love of life touched all who knew him. Ray was born Aug. 13, 1926, in Sandusky. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1944 and attended Bowling Green State University for several years. Ray was a World War II veteran. He flew in B-17 Bombers in the Air Force and was a member of the37-97 Bomb Squad. He was in the service for two years.
He owned Martin's Flowers in Norwalk then purchased Ray's Radio Inn in 1950. He maintained the establishment until 1958 when he purchased the Standard Beverage Wine Company. Years later, he bought Mid Ohio Wines in Mansfield, Ohio, and was CEO of both companies until he retired in 1989.
He enjoyed working in his garden, playing golf, taking trips on his boat, and socializing with his friends. Ray's wit and sense of humor will be missed by all who loved him.
Ray is survived by a son, Dennis (Melanie Rogers) Moosbrugger of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a daughter, Dawn (Larry) Schlessman ofSandusky; two grandchildren, Erika of Las Vegas and EhrenMoosbrugger of Ann Arbor, Mich.; along with their mother, Penny Yohn; three sisters, Carol Icsman, Alice Blakely and Ellen McChesney, all of Sandusky; nieces, nephews, other relatives; and special friend, Anna Giunta.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Millie Moosbrugger (January 2008); his brothers, Donald Moosbrugger (March 2007),Sandusky, and HowardMoosbrugger, California; and his parents, Edwin and Clare (Mainzer) Moosbrugger, Sandusky.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 83, AMVETS Post 17, VFW Post 2529, Elks Lodge 285, Friends of Sandusky Greenhouse, Men's Garden Club of Erie County, Desert Rose Society (Palm Springs, Calif.), Sandusky Yacht Club, past member of Plum Brook Country Club, and Palm Valley Country Club.
Calling hours will be 3-7 p.m. Saturday at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky.
