Martha K. (Koller) Long, 86, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at her home after a two-year illness.
She was born Feb. 22, 1922, in Youngstown, Ohio, and lived in Vermilion since 1957. She had lived in Lorain. She graduated from Elyria High School and was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was financial secretary 18 years.
She worked in the accounting and purchasing department at Basic Food Materials, Vermilion (ITC), retiring in 1982. She served for 22 years as business manager of Great Lakes Historical Society Museum (Inland Seas Maritime Museum), retiring in 1994, and worked at the museum part-time. She was a member of Firelands Tourist Council, a former member of Business and Professional Women’s organization. She served on Vermilion City Council for three terms, representing Ward II.
Survivors include her sons, Richard Thomas (Marlene) Long of Sandusky and Bill (Wendy) Long of Elyria; six grandchildren, Jennifer Long, Tricia (Scott) Stradtman, Michelle (Steven) Wendland, Kyle Long, Jodi Long and Kelsi Long; great-grandchildren, Addison Stradtman and Kaleb Wendland; and nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 51 years, Thomas J. Long, May 21, 1995; parents, Adelbert and Mary (Ellis) Koller; two brothers, Ben and Rudy Koller; and sister, Margaret Lingg.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Trinity Lutheran Church, 3747 Liberty Ave., Vermilion; the Revs. Terry Parker and Larry Houff will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. Arrangements are entrusted to Riddle Funeral Home, Vermilion.
