Robert "Joel" Lucal, 66, of Sandusky died Wednesday, June 2, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born March 10, 1944, in Sandusky, son of the late Marian M. (Schaefer) and Harry A. Lucal. He was a 1962 graduate of Sandusky High School and was a part of the "Sensational 60"s Football Team".
Joel retired from Delphi as a tool and die maker, Dec. 31, 2004, after 37 years of service. He was a volunteer Perkins fireman from 1962-65, worked for Perkins Township from 1961-65, Union Chain from 1965-67, and owned and operated Lucal Landscape and Snow Removal for 30 years. He was also the caretaker at Oheb Shalom Cemetery.
Joel was a member of UAW Local 913, American Legion Post 83, Port Clinton Elks Lodge 1718, Port Clinton Moose Lodge 1612, Erie County Conservation League, was an umpire for fast pitch softball, a Boy Scout leader, and a life-member of the NRA. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, gardening and making wooden toys for his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda E. (Roth) Lucal; daughters, Elisabeth "Betsy" Lucal of South Bend, Ind., and Amy (Rick) Simmons of Chardon, Ohio; son, James (June) Lucal of Aurora, Ohio; grandchildren, Kyle and Quinn Zhani, Madeline and Zoe Simmons, and Benjamin and Matthew Lucal; sister, Mary (Steve) Heschel of Oak Harbor; brother, H. Paul (Judy) Lucal of Monroeville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may call 5-9 p.m. Friday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. funeral service in Zion Lutheran Church, 530 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. John Mawhirter will officiate the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America-Heart of Ohio Council or Perkins Fire and EMT.
