Robert Griggs Sr., 80, of Norwalk, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky.
He was born Oct. 29, 1927, in Vermilion, son of the late Wesley and Mae Virginia (Haskins) Griggs. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1948 and served in the 82nd Airborne Division in the European and American Theaters. In August, 1956, he began working at Ford Motor Co. in Sandusky and retired after 30 years of service.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and Browns.
He is survived by his children, Robert (Rebecca) Griggs Jr. and Alan D. (Jackie) Griggs, all of Norwalk, Fred W. (Doreen) Griggs of Michigan, Edward H. Griggs of Utah, Norman A. Griggs, Pamela (Rick) Gilbert and Jeffrey S. (Rachel) Griggs, all of Sandusky; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elisabeth Julianna (Krause) Griggs in 1991; brothers, Frank, Wesley, Norman and Richard ‘Dick’ Griggs; sister, Lillian; and special friend, Ruth Price.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk. There will be visitation from 10 a.m. Tuesday until service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home; the Rev. Fred Wiechers will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park in Huron.
