Philip H. Sandvick

Philip H. Sandvick, 84, residing in Sandusky, has gone to be with the Lord. He died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center following a brief illness.
He was born in Westlake, Ohio, Oct. 30, 1923. He was a graduate of Rocky River High School. He was an officer in the Merchant Marines, serving in World War II.
Phil owned and operated Sandvick Motors in Norwalk for 40 years, retiring in 1991. Prior to opening Sandvick Motors, he sailed as an officer on the Great Lakes for Pittsburgh Steamship Company.
He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Vermilion. He was an active member of Catawba Island Club, former member of Plum Brook Country Club and Toledo Club, American Legion Post 83 and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
Phil is survived by two sons, Tom (Debbie) Sandvick of Norwalk and Jerry (Karen) Sandvick of Navarre, Fla.; grandchildren, Gina (Ben), Matt (Erin), Mark (Jenna), Andy and Randi; and great-grandchildren, Evan and Ilsa; and brother, Burt Sandvick of North Royalton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; parents, Burt and Gina (Thornsen) Sandvick; sisters, Ethel Peugnet and Ann Swallow; and brothers, Jon, Tom, Enoch, David and Joseph Sandvick.
There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Lakeview Baptist Church, 591 Ferndale Ave., Vermilion; the Rev. Cliff Morris will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
