Roger G. "Rod" Dorland, 76, of Sandusky, passed away early Thursday morning, Oct. 9, 2008, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Pleasant Home, Ohio, Dec. 3, 1931. He was a 1949 graduate of Congress High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict. He retired Jan. 1, 1987, after 25 years, from Sandusky Fire Department as Assistant Fire Chief. He also retired from Gilbert Heating and Cooling where he worked for nearly 30 years.
Rod enjoyed golfing and walking.
He is survived by his daughter, Chris Dorland of Sandusky; two sons, Randy (Sara) Dorland of New Albany, Ind., and RickyDorland of Sandusky; three granddaughters, Jessica, Stephanie and Lisa; great-grandson, Cam'Ron; mother, Wilma (Hottel) Dorland of Pleasant Home; brother, Robert Glen 'Shorty' Dorland of Pleasant Home; sister-in law, Elanora Dahmen; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette C. (Sheffel) Dorland, Feb. 5, 2001; and father, Forest C. Dorland.
Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday in David F. Koch Funeral Home,520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery, Sandusky.
