Alfred L. Smith, 58, of Sandusky, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, Oct.11, 2008, in Danbury Township, Ohio.
He was born July 28, 1950, in Lorain, Ohio, and was a 1968 graduate of Vermilion High School. Al received a degree from Clark County Tech Institute in Agriculture. He served in the U. S. Army Reserves, where he was Honorably Discharged in 1975. Al retired from the City of Sandusky, Water Distribution Department, and worked at the Sandusky Meijer Store for the past nine years.
He was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Sandusky and a member and past master of Erie Lodge No. 239, F.& A.M., Milan.
Al was an avid Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan, and enjoyed fishing and visiting with friends. He loved his family and staying close together, making sure everyone was "OK".
He is survived by his wife, the former Marilyn Hahn, whom he married June 25, 1971; daughter, Meredith (John) Holman of Sandusky; brother, Lauren (Georgianna) Smith of Vermilion; sister, Karen (Tom) Quinn of Pickerington, Ohio; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nora Belle Wikel Smith; father, Lawrence Smith; and aunts and uncles.
Friends may call 2-4 and6-8 Tuesday in Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave., where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday; the Rev. Elmer C. Novak will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870, or to the donors favorite charity.
