Gary F. Schweinfurth, 67, of Sandusky, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center.
He was born Nov. 17, 1940, in Sandusky. He was employed by the former Philco Corp. and Breckenridge, and retired in 2002 after 40 years with Ohio Drywall and Construction.
Gary was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church; Elks Lodge 285, Sandusky, where he volunteered as their grounds keeper; Carpenters Local 913; past member of the Sandusky Yacht Club; American Legion Post 83, Sandusky; and loved fishing, working in the yard, helping others with projects, and spending time with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sandie (Glick) Schweinfurth, whom he married June 17, 1961; children, Matthew (Carla) Schweinfurth and Amy Schweinfurth, both of Sandusky; grandchildren, Katie, Megan, Matthew and Samuel; sister, Patti (Harland) Byrley of Sandusky; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Eunice (Oswald) Schweinfurth; sister, Mary Jean; and brother, David.
Friends may call 2-8 p.m. today (Wednesday) in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where Elks Lodge 285 will host memorial services at 7 p.m. Prayer services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Patrick Rohen will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, where the American Legion will conduct military honors.
