Robert F. Rickenbaugh, 81, of Huron, died early Monday morning, Oct. 6, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center, 1912 Hayes Ave., Sandusky.
He was born July 14, 1927, in Sandusky. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1945. He was employed at the former New Departure-Hyatt, retiring in 1986, after 39 years of service as a foreman in the Model Shop. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Japan during WW II.
Bob enjoyed golf, boating, football, spending time with family and friends, and spending every winter in Florida. He was a member of the Sandusky Amateur Radio Club, a life member of VFW Post 2529, American Legion Post 83, Huron Eagles, and was a member and past president of the Firebird Amateur Radio Club.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy (Hanser) Rickenbaugh, whom he married Sept. 4, 1948; his daughter, Judith A. (Richard) Poorman of Huron; his son, Gary E. (Pamela J.) Rickenbaugh of Castalia; grandchildren, Jason Rickenbaugh, Lauren Cruse and Ryan and Brandon Poorman; great-grandchild, Jayla Cruse; his sister, Marlene (John) Walters of Sandusky; his brother, Ronald Rickenbaugh of Sandusky; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward N. and Florence J. (Bickley) Rickenbaugh; his sister, Norma Jean Trautman; and brothers, Donald and Darrell Rickenbaugh.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Pastor Kathleen Suggitt of Grace Lutheran Church in Castalia will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
