Diana L. (Grimmer) Sweet, 61, lost her year-long battle with pancreatic cancer on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008. It was a battle she fought hard to overcome.
Diana was born Oct. 24, 1946, to Bernard and Lucille Grimmer in Norwalk. She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1964 and married the love of her life Dale Sweet on Nov. 4, 1967. Dale and "Dee" had been a couple since the eighth grade. She was a resident of Huron and most recently worked at the Sawmill Creek Shops in the men's department. For 24 years, Diana owned and operated The Parkway Motel in Huron. Diana had a passion for horses. She bred and raced standardbred harness race horses for nearly 30 years.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Dale; two daughters, Julie Ann (John) Buntin of Akron and Kristen Lea of Chesapeake Beach, Md.; mother, Lucille (Spoerr) Grimmer of Norwalk; sister, Nancy (William) Pedley of St Louis, Mo.; sister-in-law Jane (Dennis) McDonald of Norwalk; brother-in-law, David (Rita) Sweet of Ottawa, Ohio; Uncle Max McCrillis of Akron and Uncle Robert Spoerr of Norwalk; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bernard Grimmer; her "Aunt Pat" Marian McCrillis; and Aunt, Julia Leak.
Cremation has taken place. Join her family as they celebrate her life from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Sawmill Creek Resort, Settler's Cabin, in Huron. Please bring your stories and moments to share that made Diana special to you.
