Charles Leroy Ward, 86, of Berlinville, Ohio, died peacefully Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at his residence.
He was born July 2, 1922, in Norwalk, son of the late Arnold Leroy Ward and Hilda (Andrews) Ward. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1944-46 with the military police. He then lived in Norwalk from 1948 until moving to Berlin Heights in 1960. He retired from Imperial Clevite in Milan, after 33 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles and working on the family farm. He was a life member of the Norwalk VFW Post 2743, American Legion Post 41 and Norwalk Eagles Aerie 711.
He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Therese (Steven) Ward Blystone of Norwalk; grandchildren, Charles "Chip" (Shelli) Ward II, Thomas Christopher Wells, Sean David Wells, David (Julia) Ward, Michelle (David) Shephard and Daniel Ward; great-grandchildren, Nicqui Ward, Seth Wells, Cody Wells and Brittany Wells; his care giver, Thomas Wells; and cousin, James (Shirley) Ward. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Violet Therese (Jones) Ward on Sept. 22, 2008; son, Charles Christopher John Ward in 2004; and half brothers, Robert and Harry Norton.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. Wednesday until services at 7 p.m. at Evan Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk. The Rev. Kenneth Blystone will officiate, with military rites by the Norwalk VFW and American Legion. Interment will be later in the Ward Family Cemetery in Berlinville.
