EUGENE R. SCHOEWE

Eugene R. Schoewe, 83, of Sandusky, passed away early Wednesday evening, Oct. 1, 2008, at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Sandusky, March 20, 1925, and was a graduate of Sandusky High School. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy. For over 30 years he worked at New Departure-Hyatt (Div of General Motors) as a technical electrician, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, VFW, and a lifetime member of the NRA. He enjoyed boating and hunting.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Ron) Funni of Sandusky; seven grandchildren, Bryce, Brian, Rusty, Ben, Tabitha, Carrie and Gwen; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hildegarde Huntington of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Mildred Swabley of Norwalk; niece and nephews; and very special friend, Marilyn Meisler.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doreen (Shaw) Schoewe in 1987; three sons, Gene, Ronald and Ted Schoewe; and parents, Rolland and Hildegarde (Weyer) Schoewe.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday in the David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky; the Rev. David Nuss will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
