ORMOND BEACH, Fla.
Gerald A. Lechner, 70, of Ormond Beach, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, with his wife of 51 years at his side.
Jerry was born in Sandusky, Sept. 30, 1937. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Heidelberg University, he went on to become Chief of Police in Sandusky and later became City Manager. Jerry and his wife moved to Ormond Beach from Sandusky in 2005.
He will be remembered as having a positive attitude, being a great provider, and for being a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all.
Jerry is survived by Sue, his loving wife; daughter, Leslie Kill of Ormond Beach; grandson, Levi Kill of Columbus, Ohio; and granddaughter, Alexis Kill of Ormond Beach. Other survivors include his brothers, Bob (Dolores) Joiner of Sandusky and Raymond (Maggie) Lechner of Punta Gorda, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Hillary Kill; parents, Raymond and Christine Lechner; and brothers, Jack Joiner and James Lechner.
A memorial mass and FOP service will be begin at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, in St. Mary’s Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky; the Rev. Philip Feltman will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Lohman Funeral Home, Daytona, Fla.
A memorial scholarship is being set up in Jerry’s honor and donations may be made in his name to Fraternal Order of Police, P.O. Box 480, Sandusky, OH 44870.
