Miriam (Curtis) Rinderle
August 3, 1914 – September 25, 2008
Miriam (Curtis) Rinderle, 94, a lifelong resident of Sandusky, died peacefully in her home at Cedar Point Thursday evening, Sept. 25, 2008, in the presence of her loving family.
She was born in Sandusky, Aug. 3, 1914. She was a 1932 graduate of Sandusky High School and a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Miriam went on to study at the Cleveland School of Art and continued painting throughout her life to leave a legacy of her talented artwork for future generations.
In 2002, Firelands Regional Medical Center honored her as a “Woman of Excellence” for her outstanding contributions to the community. She was an active member of Sandusky Art Study Club, Martha Pitkin chapter of NSDAR, Cedar Point Garden Club, Firelands Art Study League, Chapter S of PEO Sisterhood, United Ladies Sewing Club and member of Rockwell Springs Trout Club, Castalia
As a lifetime member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, she served as an elder, past president of Women’s Fellowship, Sunday school teacher, secretary of the maintenance committee and was a choir member.
Miriam loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Miriam ‘Punky’ (Ron) Porto of Sandusky, Martha (Ted) Longer of Hamilton, Mich., and Karen (Terrence) Sicilia of Ormond Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Debbie Hecht, Jean Werner, Curt Longer, Karen Schipper, Marty Cook, Rich Haley, Andy Bohanan and Ashley Porto; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Vera Harkin of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; and cousin, Alice Graefe of Cape Girardeau, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver F. Rinderle, in 1985; beloved grandson, Donnie Rotsinger; and parents, Earl L. and Vera (Zistel) Curtis.
Friends may call 3-6 p.m. Sunday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in First Congregational United Church of Christ, 431 Columbus Ave., Sandusky; the Rev. Lenore Kure will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
