Christine Violet Therese (Jones) Ward, 82, of Berlinville, died peacefully Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at her residence.
She was born March 19, 1926, in Portland, Dorset, England, daughter of the late James and Rose May (Diment) Jones. After attending school in England, and during World War II, she worked in the military’s laundry service.
She was a war bride and in 1948 sailed on the Queen Mary to the United States with her daughter and mother to meet her husband, Charles Leroy Ward. Together they lived in Norwalk from 1948 until moving to Berlin Heights in 1960. She worked for the former Rockwell Manufacturing and Norstat, retiring after 25 years as a machinist.
She enjoyed reading, writing poetry and stories, knitting, cooking and her daily tea and crumpets.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Leroy Ward; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Therese (Ward) and Steven Blystone of Norwalk; grandsons, Charles “Chip” (Shelli) Ward II, Thomas Christopher Wells and Sean David Wells; great-grandchildren, Nicqui Ward, Seth Wells, Cody Wells and Brittany Wells; and cousin, Edward “Ted” Smith of England.
She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Christopher John Ward in 2004; and parents.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. Thursday until service at 3 p.m. in Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk; the Rev. Kenneth Blystone will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Ward Family Cemetery, Berlinville.
