Chester E. Bango, 58, Berlin Heights, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Sandusky, Aug. 24, 1950, to Chester R. and Audrey M. (Mischler) Bango. He attended Sandusky High School. He served in the U.S. Army for four years, stationed in Germany; he received his GED while serving in the military. He was employed by General Motors for 37 years, retiring in 2006.
Chester loved his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed boating, fishing, model cars, playing cards and his collection of “frog décor” for his yard. He was an avid NASCAR fan and collected Dale Earnhardt memorabilia. He and Peggy enjoyed riding in his 1960 El Camino.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy (Cantley) Bango, who he married January 2, 2002; daughters, Charla (John) Turnley of Sandusky, Cindy (Jon) Carico of Sandusky, Rhonda (Scott) Kromer of Bellevue and April Bango of Berlin Heights; son, Chester E. Bango Jr. of Berlin Heights; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; father, Chester R. Bango; stepmother, Sharon M. (Sterling) Bango; sisters, Pat (Bob) LaCourse of Sandusky, Peggy (Bernie) Doyon of Sandusky, Penny (Rich) Williams, Linda (Al) Followay of Huron and Shelley (David) Veverka of Sandusky; stepbrothers, Steven Bass, Donnie Bass and Neal Bass, all of Spring, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Audrey M. (Mischler) Bango in 1997; brother, Douglas Bango in 2003; and his grandparents.
Friends may call 5-9 p.m. Wednesday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 1:30 Thursday in the funeral home; Chaplain Jamie Stewart will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
