Robert H. “Bob” Baum, 84, Sandusky, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening, Sept. 17, 2008, at his home.
He was born Sept. 15, 1924, in Sandusky. He was a 1943 graduate of Sandusky High School. Bob served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a paratrooper in the Airborne Division. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and American Legion Post 83. His faith and his family were most important to him. Bob enjoyed gardening, baking, his computer and building Heathkit electronics. He built his family home and was a “jack of all trades.”
He is survived by two daughters, Joyce (Phil) Russo of Cincinnati and Jackie (Paul) Lang of Sandusky; five sons, Joe (Lenore) Baum of Weaverville, N.C., Jim (Pat) Baum of Swanton, Ohio, John (Jodie) Baum of Sandusky, Jerry (Sherry) Baum of Huron and Jeff (Robin) Baum of Sandusky; 16 grandchildren, Andy, Christy, Sara, Michael, David, Daniel, Abigail, Emily, Janice, Stacey, Jennifer, Melissa, Samantha, Jim, Michelle and Allen; five great-grandchildren, Austin, Bryan, Kayla, Erica and Baby Haettich “on the way”; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa D. (Dudek) Baum, July 19, 2008; daughter, Janice Marie Baum, in infancy; parents, Joseph J. Baum, Elizabeth (Bruck) Baum Rader and stepfather, Albert J. Rader; brother, James Baum, in infancy; and sister, Jeanne (Rader) Miller.
Friends may call 3-7 p.m. Sunday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, and 9:30-10:30 a.m., Monday, in Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Dave Nuss officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
