Helen M. Holbrook, 87, of Vermilion and formerly Bluefield W.V., passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, in Vermilion.
She was born Dec. 21, 1920, in Princeton, W.V., the daughter of the late Rosser N. and Mary Myrtle Tomlinson Miller. Mrs. Holbrook was a graduate of Princeton High School. She was formerly employed by Manco Oil and Supply Co. as secretary and Mercer County Sheriff's office as treasurer.
Helen was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Bluefield, the Sewette Club, and was a past president of the Quota Club.
She is survived by her son, Duane Nelson Holbrook of Vermilion; daughter, Karen Holbrook Knauer and husband, Gary of Huron; two grandchildren, Chad Nelson Knauer and Jennifer Leigh Bauer; and great-grandchild, Brooke E. Bauer. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holbrook was preceded in death by her husband, Denver Nelson Holbrook; son, Dwight Matthew Holbrook; five brothers, Eugene, Merlin, Herbert, Jack and Rosser N. Miller Jr.; and three sisters, Evelyn M. Brown, Margie M. Thompson and Mary Ellen M. Updike.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m., Thursday, until funeral services at 2 p.m. in Mercer Funeral Home Chapel, Bluefield,; the Rev. Susan Rector officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Bluefield. Serving as pallbearers will be men of the church.
