John M. “Jack” Klenk Jr., 85, of Sandusky, died early Saturday afternoon, Aug. 30, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born July 10, 1923, in Sandusky. Jack was a 1941 Sandusky High School graduate and was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WW II. He was owner/operator of Klenk Auto Body in Sandusky until 1982 and retired from the Erie County Investment Co. as a real estate agent.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher. Jack was also a Little League baseball coach, Boy Scout leader and former past president of the Sandusky Exchange Club. Jack enjoyed bowling, boating, playing Jazz and Big Band music, flying, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice (Kleinhans) Klenk; two daughters, Jennifer (Rene) Miller of Sandusky and Samantha Ries of St. Louis; four sons, John M. Klenk III of Marion, Ohio, Martin (Donna) Klenk of Milan and Daniel Klenk and Mark (Sherri) Klenk of Sandusky; 25 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Sue (Klenk) Boulis, in 1989; his parents, John Molter and Sophia (Reed) Klenk Sr.; and one brother in infancy.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. Wednesday until a memorial services at 11 a.m. in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Pastor John Mawhirter of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
