Harriett L. Abele, 91, Sandusky, died early Saturday morning, Aug. 9, 2008, at her residence after a brief illness.
She was born in Sandusky, May 25, 1917. She was a 1935 graduate of Sandusky High School, and a 1937 graduate of Sandusky Business College. She was the personal secretary for attorney Bernhardt G. Zeiher for 43 years. She was also the secretary for the Director of Nursing at the former Good Samaritan Hospital for 16 years, retiring in 1981.
Harriett was an American Red Cross volunteer for 10 years at the former Good Samaritan Hospital. She was a member of First United Church of Christ in Sandusky, YMCA Senior Women, Erie County Senior Center, Firelands Community Hospital Auxiliary and Sandusky High School Alumni Association.
She is survived by her sister, Lois Chupa of Sandusky; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry W. and Lulu F. (Will) Abele; and two sisters, Leith Cathcart and Ruth Everson.
Family and friends may call from 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, until services at 11 a.m. in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky; the Rev. Terry Everson will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
