James H. Stokes, 76, a resident of Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, and formerly of Northfield, Ohio, died Thursday afternoon, Aug. 7, 2008, at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born July 24, 1932, in Cleveland. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was a buyer for Terex in Hudson, Ohio. James was an avid reader, golfer and tennis player.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia (Anthony) Nicholson of Twinsburg, Ohio; son, Scott (Janet) Stokes of Bellevue; three grandchildren, Keri Stokes, Emily Stokes and Rachel Stokes; and brother, Thomas Stokes of Gates Mills, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Marion Louise Longo; son, Thomas Stokes; grandson, Benjamin Stokes; parents, Benjamin and Janet Stokes; and sister, Dolores.
Friends may call from 10 a.m., Monday, until military service at 11 a.m. in Giffin Chapel of Ohio Veterans Home, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky; Chaplain Paul Birmingham will officiate. Burial will be in Ohio Veterans Home Cemetery. Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
