Edward D. Skaggs, 73, of Huron, died Wednesday evening, Aug. 6, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center following a brief illness.
He was born April 20, 1935, the son of Howard and Verna (Hart) Skaggs in Ansted, W.V. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from Ford Motor Company in 2004 after 48 years of service.
He was a member of Meadowlawn Church of Christ, Sandusky, and Erie County Conservation League. He enjoyed hunting, target shooting, bike riding, walking, camping and spending time with his family and friends.
His wife of 52 years, the former Julie Wertz, who he married Aug. 5, 1956; daughters, Connie (fiance Greg Wargo) Skaggs of Norwalk, Cindy (Rick) Barnes of Lambertville, Mich., Christine Ingram of Clermont, Fla., Barb (Mark) Asberry of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., Diane (Jerry) Taylor of Monroeville, Linda (Matt) Kenne of Cary, N.C., and Rachel (Steve) Lombard of Monroe, Mich.; sons, Darrell Dean Skaggs of Norwalk and John (Liz) Skaggs of Chicago; 21 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Kathleen Mangus of Clarksburg, W.V.; brother, Albert Lee Skaggs of Boiling Springs, S.C.; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives survive him.
His parents; and two brothers, Alan Skaggs and Reginald "Buck" Skaggs, preceded him in death.
Friends may call 3-8 p.m. Friday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday; Brother Clyde Mayberry will officiate. Entombment will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
