John A. Mercier, 67, of Port Clinton, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 5, 2008, in Great Lakes Transitional Care Center in Sandusky.
He was born Oct. 22, 1940, in Detroit, Mich., the son of the late James and Marion (Nichols) Mercier.
John was employed in demonstration sales and enjoyed woodworking; he was a self-employed marine carpenter. He especially enjoyed playing Santa in Exton, Pa., for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving five tours of duty during the Vietnam War and was a member of AMVETS Post 17 and VFW Post 2480 of Port Clinton. He loved cars, was an avid NASCAR fan, owned street rods and rebuilt a 1963 Ford Falcon from the ground up. John, much to the dismay of many, was an avid Michigan football fan.
Surviving are the love of his life, his wife, Donna J. (Ward), whom he married Aug. 13, 1982; brother, Jim (Theresa) Mercier; sister, Delphine Schultz; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday in Neidecker, LeVeck and Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery
