John R. VanDootingh Jr., 54, Sandusky, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center.
He was born in Sandusky, Jan. 19, 1954. John was a commercial estimator for heating and cooling contractors.
He was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, an Eagle Scout, and baseball coach and officer for the Eagles Atom League.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy (Pauley) VanDootingh, to whom he was married 10 years; sons, Nick VanDootingh and Travis (Ashley Cantu) VanDootingh, both of Sandusky; two grandchildren; parents, John and Patricia (Runkle) VanDootingh Sr., Sandusky; stepchildren, Claire (Jai Hines) Willer, Grand Rapids, Ohio, Seth Willer and Troy Willer, both of Sandusky; sisters, Sue (Russ) Lindsley, Port Clinton, and Jodi Jackson, Columbus, Ohio; brothers, Jeff (Diana) VanDootingh, Marietta, Ga., and Scott (Lisa) VanDootingh, Toledo, Ohio; and mother-in-law, JoAnne Pauley, Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
There will be no visitation. Private family services will be at a later date. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, Sandusky, is overseeing arrangements.
