Ruth Erick Gale, of Sandusky, 96, passed away Friday, July 25, 2008, at Parkvue Heath Care Center.
Ruth was born Aug. 1, 1911, in Angola, N.Y., to Charles and Dorothy (Fletcher) Erick. Ruth graduated from Angola High School and married Herbert Franklin Gale in March 1936. Ruth worked for Bell Telephone Co. in Buffalo, N.Y. for 16 years as a commercial representative and supervisor and later worked in the same capacity for Ohio Northern Telephone Co. in Bellevue, where she lived for 27 years with husband, Herbert, and son, Rodney Gale. Herb and Ruth retired to Florida and New York in 1975. For the last 15 years, Ruth lived in Parkvue Independent Living and Parkvue Health Care Center in Sandusky.
Ruth was a member of Eastern Star, Business and Professional Women's Club, various church organizations, two bridge clubs, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. While living in Bellevue, she was active in community and school organizations. As a member of First Congregational Church, Ruth sang in the church choir and at many weddings. Ruth was most recently a member of St. Stephens United Church of Christ in Sandusky and also a member of Congregational United Church of Christ in Angola, N.Y.
Ruth will be deeply missed by her son, Rod (Candy) Gale of Port Clinton,; two grandchildren, Erick Gale of Columbus, and Bethany (Gary) Stark of Chicago; various nieces and nephews; and honorary "adopted" children, Wayne and Susan Warden of Chandler, Ariz. and Lakeside, and Roger and Anne Paul of Bellevue.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Herbert F. Gale (August, 1997); an infant son; her parents; a sister; and three brothers.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the wonderful nursing staff at Parkvue Health Care Center and Stein Hospice for their kind and professional care of Ruth.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Parkvue Health Care Center. Ruth will be buried at Brant Cemetery in Brant, N.Y., beside her husband. Pfeil Funeral Home of Sandusky is handling local arrangements, along with the Heimburg Addison Funeral Home in Angola.
