Robert J. Gerding, 86, of Port Clinton, died Thursday evening, July 24, 2008, in Riverview Healthcare Campus in Oak Harbor under the care of Stein Hospice.
He was born Oct. 25, 1921, in Port Clinton. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. Robert was employed by the U.S. government at Erie Army Depot and later was an instructor with Job Corps. After his retirement, he worked maintenance at Camp Perry for many years. Robert was a member of American Legion Post 113 of Port Clinton.
Surviving are his daughter, Vicki (Robert) Kyle of Columbus, Ohio; son, Robert C. (Marsha) Gerding of Port Clinton; grandchildren, Steven (Angie) Gerding, Katie Gerding, Nancy (Steve) Waterhouse and Angela (Dave) Ashbaugh; five great-grandchildren; and brother, Charles (Jeaniene) Gerding of Sun City, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret L. (Smith) Gerding, Aug. 12, 2007; his parents, Walter and Helen (Snider) Gerding; and sister, Eileen St. Clair.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton, where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
