Joan Rosenthal Coulter, 87, residing in Sandusky and formerly of Milan, died early Saturday morning, July 19, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 2, 1921, in Tiffin, and was a graduate of Columbian High School in Tiffin. She attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio, and Tiffin University in Tiffin. She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy WAVES and graduated from the Aviation Machinist Mate School in Norman, Okla.
She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Royal Horticultural Society of London, England, a lifetime member of The Garden Club of Ohio, a member and past president of Milan Garden Club, a member and past treasurer of Martha Pitkin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Plum Brook Country Club, Maritime Museum, Cleveland Botanical Garden, and Cleveland Museum of Art.
Joan is survived by her stepson, Richard Coulter of Toledo, Ohio; two sisters, Frances R. (Edmund W.) Morris of Charlottesville, Va. and Celeste R. Hocs of North Haven, Conn.; and three nieces, Susan (Don Wolford) Morris of Barrington, Ill., Margaret (Charles Dorr) Morris of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Johanna (Dr. Stephen) Cohen of Moraga, Calif.; and nephew, David Hocs of Brooklyn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Coulter; and parents, Harvey A. and Celeste (Childs) Rosenthal.
Private family services will be conducted. Burial will be in Milan Cemetery. Groff Funeral Home, Sandusky, is in charge of arrangements.
