John “Jack” R. Meredith Sr., 75, Sandusky, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus.
He was born Dec. 4, 1932, in Sandusky, and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was employed by the Huron Police Department, a deputy sheriff for the Erie County Sheriff’s office, owned and operated Firelands Dry Wall, and retired from Continental Security with Whirlpool. He was a member of the Sheriff’s Posse, loved fishing, hunting and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Margaret Meredith; children, Robert (Pam) Meredith of Anderson, Ind., John (Linda) Meredith Jr. of Clinton, N.C., Darlene (David) Gormley of Meridian, Conn., Sheri (Mike) Gilhuly of Huron, Tyree (Robin) Meredith of Lorain, Shantay Munson of Tiffin, Ohio, and Sherrie (Gary) Gilhuly of Berlin Heights; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia “Patti” (David) Ross of Westlake, Ohio; brothers, Max (Pat) Meredith and David (Dianne) Meredith, both of Sandusky; sister-in-law, Jean Meredith of Frazeyburg, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Irvin Munson; parents, George and Annie (Allott) Meredith Sr.; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Peggy (Joel) Edwards and Joan Smith; and brothers, George W. Meredith Jr. and Ted Meredith.
A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church, 211 E. Monroe St., Sandusky. The Rev. Daniel Miller will officiate.
