Mary Alice Amison, 80, Sandusky, passed away Wednesday morning, July 16, 2008, in Providence Care Center.
She was born April 26, 1928, in Berclair, Miss., and attended school in LeFlore County School System. Moving to Sandusky in 1952, she worked at and retired from Providence Hospital in 1990.
Mary was an avid sports fan and remained a loyal Cleveland Indians fan. Her great joy was cooking and eating good food with friends and family. She celebrated her 80th birthday in April with a huge birthday party at Porter’s Memorial Church, where she was recognized as one of the founding members, celebrated 50 years in the church, sang in the choir and was on the Stewardess Board.
She is survived by her husband, Willie, to whom she was married 61 years; daughters, Kathy Amison and Vera Graves, both of Sandusky, and Cynthia Bernard, Memphis, Tenn.; sons, Newist (Lillie) Bledsoe, Chicago, Ill., Willie (Nancy) Amison, Lawrence, Kan. and Isavelt “Ike” (Alexis) Amison, Lorain, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and very good friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lieutenant Bledsoe; mother, Adeline (Foster) Lear in 2005; and sister, Ida Mae Brengettcy.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday in Porter’s Memorial C.M.E. Church, 1722 Third St., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the church; the Rev. Amariah McIntosh officiating. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, Sandusky, is handling arrangements.
