Mr. Gene Austin Dew, 68, of Collins, Ohio, and formerly of Hallsboro, N.C., died Sunday, July 13, 2008, in Ohio.
He was born Feb. 2, 1940, in Columbus County, N.C., the son of William Avery Dew Sr.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was past vice commander and lifetime member of DAV Post 35 in Whiteville, N.C.
He was formerly employed with International Paper.
He is survived by his wife, Bette Miller Dew; four daughters, Rhonda Lewis of Hallsboro, Kelly Williams of Sandusky, Robin Worley-Lewis of Cerro Gordo, N.C. and Gean Kay Smith of Collins; son, Randy Dew of Whiteville; mother, Blanche Dew; three sisters, JoAn Rhodes of Hallsboro, Nancy McCrary of Asheboro, N.C. and Carolyn Kennedy of High Point, N.C.; two brothers, Billy Dew of Hallsboro and David Dew of Whiteville; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday in Peacock Funeral Home, Whiteville.
Funeral service with military honors will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday in Peacock Funeral Home Chapel; the Rev. Mark Spelzhausen officiating.
Interment will be in Pierce Cemetery.
